Info

A collectible product line that transformed Goas architectural legacy into a modern, functional object, bridging heritage, sustainability, and contemporary design while creating a deeper emotional connection with locals and visitors alike.

Problem

Goas architectural heritage is one of its most distinctive cultural assets, yet much of it remains overlooked in contemporary souvenir and lifestyle products. Most tourism-driven merchandise relies on generic beach imagery, creating little connection to the regions rich history, craftsmanship, and Portuguese-influenced architecture. Amor de Goa sought to create a meaningful keepsake that would celebrate Goas identity while appealing to modern consumers and design-conscious travellers.

Approach

The project began with extensive research into Goas historic homes, villas, and public buildings, identifying architectural features that define the regions visual character. These structures were documented, sketched, and simplified into contemporary graphic illustrations.Rather than recreating buildings literally, the design language focused on abstraction, using clean linework, silhouettes, and geometric interventions to represent the coexistence of Goas heritage and modern evolution. Material exploration was equally important, with a focus on sustainability and authenticity through the use of reclaimed wood sourced from old Goan houses.

Solution

A premium collection of handcrafted wooden coasters was designed, each featuring illustrations inspired by iconic Goan heritage buildings. The graphics were screen-printed onto reclaimed wooden blocks, allowing the natural texture and history of the material to become part of the storytelling. The collection transformed architectural landmarks into functional design objects, creating a product that sits between souvenir, art piece, and lifestyle accessory.

Impact

  • Demonstrated how local stories can be translated into globally appealing lifestyle products.

  • Leveraged reclaimed materials, reinforcing sustainability and craftsmanship.

  • Strengthened Amor de Goas positioning as a brand celebrating the regions culture, history, and design heritage.

The result was a contemporary product that preserved local narratives while maintaining a clean, globally relevant aesthetic.
