Info

Medanta, The Medicity, commissioned a comprehensive wayfinding system for its Lucknow hospital to improve navigation across a large and complex healthcare environment. The objective was to create a patient-friendly experience while reflecting the cultural identity of the city.

Problem
Large hospitals can often feel overwhelming, making navigation stressful for patients and visitors. The challenge was to develop a wayfinding system that:

  • Simplified navigation across departments and facilities

  • Reduced confusion and wayfinding anxiety

Approach
I led the project from concept development to design execution, drawing inspiration from Lucknows architectural motifs, traditional patterns, and color palette.

Solution

  • Department-wise color coding for easy navigation

  • Directional, wall-mounted, suspended, and freestanding signage

  • Floor cues and navigation markers

  • Building maps and directory systems

Impact

  • Improved navigation and patient experience across the hospital

  • Created a scalable and adaptable signage system

  • Established a cohesive design language across multiple navigation touchpoints

  • Successfully translated complex spatial information into an intuitive user experience

Designed an end-to-end wayfinding system that combined environmental graphics, information design, and local cultural storytelling to create a more intuitive, welcoming, and human-centered hospital experience.
